Some moving tips if you decided to move to Russia.

Moving your belongings to Russia is not easy and cheap process. If you decided to move your personal items, clothing, shoes, furniture, and car, then there are two ways to do it is by sea container or parcels. Usually, it will take some time for packing and if you work, the packing process could be a kind of a challenging process that can take months.

There are some tips on how to make the process of moving is easier and cheaper.

First of all, you have to decide for yourself about what items you will take with you. For example, if you have a lot of furniture and decided to put everything in a container and ship it by sea, then you need to prepare the packages and wrap the furniture ahead of time before moving date. Usually, sea container will take about 2-3 months of delivery.

There three types of containers 20 ft (8 ft by 8.6 ft and by 20 ft), 40 ft (8 ft by 8 ft and by 40 ft), and 40+ft ( 8 ft by 8.6 ft and by 40 ft).  The size of the container is important, 40 and 40+ feet container can approximately contain the car, furniture, and personal items. 20 feet container can contain furniture and personal items. The difference in size of the container is almost twice, but the difference in price between 20 and 40,40+ container is about $200. You need to decide if it makes sense for you to move the car or not. You might need it in the future. However, on the other side, shipping your car will cost you some money. In general, there is no customs duty for shipping personal belonging, but this does not include the car. Please check with customs regulation on car shipping as the item, which intended for personal use.

In general, the approximate estimate to ship a container from Los Angeles to Russia is about $4,000 if the address of the destination in the central part of Russia. This includes costs to bring the container to the place of residence, where you can pack it with your staff, costs to transport the container from the residential address to the port, port service charge, customs clearance, and shipping to the port of Russia.

Maybe it makes sense does not ship everything. Sell your car and furniture and take only the most important personal items. After all, you need to consider all points, of whether to sell a car and furniture or not. It is important to realize that you might use it again in the future and you do not have to buy it all over again.

If so, it is easier and cheaper to ship personal belongings only in the parcels by sea.

As a good practice to pack your belonging in the boxes, which weighed no more than 66 pounds or 31 kg. The size of the box should be no more than 39 inches by 23 inches by 23 inches. In centimeters, it is about 1 meter by 60 cm by 60 cm.

The general customs rule of shipping to Russia, one box of 66 pounds per one receiver per month. Furthermore, it makes sense to have several receivers in Russia in order do not break the customs rule. The receiving address could be the same for all of the receivers, but the names are different.  For example, if there are 10 boxes,  then there should be ten receivers. Even though the receivers as a family have the same last name, they are considered as a different person.

Shipping by sea takes about 2-3 months. Parcels will be delivered to home without any hassle. It is the convenient way to move.

Given these points, you need to decide what way is most convenient and economical for you. Moving is not a simple and fast process. You need to decide what items you will take with you. Would you sell your furniture and car and buy it all over again? On the contrary, will you ship your furniture and car and use it again. There are always some options to consider between shipping the container or sending just your belongings in parcels.
